Paul Valthaty, the man who has become a superstar from an unknown player, credits all the attention he has been receiving to his team captain Adam Gilchrist. Post the match on Saturday at the Uppal grounds, Paul sat for a quick chat alongside his hero. "Gilly is so inspirational. I have always looked up to him, he has always been my hero and will remain so till I live. Just knowing that I am sharing the crease with him gives me so much more confidence. I have learned a lot from him and I am sure I have far more things to learn from him."
Asked how does all the adulation bestowed on him post his century against Dhoni's men make him feel, he said, "It's an amazing feeling. Obviously, to become the first to score a century in IPL is a very nice feeling. I am touched by all the appreciation and hope to continue performing well."
Yes, he has been delivering and living up to his captain's belief in him, not just with the bat but with bowling as well. Paul took four wickets in the clash against team Hyderabad that saw him being declared the Man of the Match. "It's Gilly's belief in me that I bowled well. It was his strategy. It is he who has taught me to bat hard and forget the rest, likewise, he just placed faith in me and told me to bowl. I didn't know I would be taking four wickets. That's Gilly's magic," Paul said.
